Kapoose Creek Bio expands Canadian presence with new office, talent and AI-powered drug discovery lab at McMaster Innovation Park

Vancouver-based Kapoose Creek Bio is expanding its Canadian presence with the opening of a new office and natural products drug discovery laboratory at McMaster Innovation Park, giving the drug discovery innovator important new roots in the hub of drug discovery in Eastern Canada.

The move follows Kapoose Creek Bio’s announcement of an exclusive license of Adapsyn BioScience’s AI technology and an outstanding team of talented scientists joining the company that understand the discoveries that are possible from nature.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be growing Kapoose Creek Bio’s footprint in Canada, by formally planting roots at McMaster and expanding our team of experts,” said Dr. Eric Brown, CEO of Kapoose Creek Bio. “This move accelerates our growth strategy, deepens our pipeline of bioactive chemistry to produce drug candidates, and significantly strengthens our value proposition.”

Kapoose Creek Bio is part of McMaster’s Global Nexus, a health innovation accelerator. Early on, the company realized that Adapsyn’s technology was a perfect fit for Kapoose Creek Bio’s leading unEarth Rx AI platform, creating a bespoke end-to-end solution for natural product drug discovery. By combining the technologies, Kapoose Creek Bio is uniquely positioned to overcome some of the biggest challenges that plague all companies active in natural drug discovery: characterizing structure and chemistry from nature, identifying mechanism of action, and producing natural chemistry at scale.

The proof points have come with unprecedented speed. Earlier this year Kapoose Creek Bio announced the advancement of two lead compounds spanning indications in neurodegeneration and neuropsychiatric diseases. These compounds are currently in development for human dosing.

“We are thrilled to be expanding Kapoose Creek Bio’s Canadian presence and joining the thriving life sciences ecosystem at McMaster Innovation Park,” said Dr. Brown. “With the proven promise of AI, collaborative partners like McMaster and the support of the Canadian biotech investment community, the untapped world of nature is poised to provide the next breakthroughs in drug discovery.”

Debbie Martin, Interim Chief Executive Officer of McMaster Innovation Park, welcomed Kapoose Creek Bio to the community, one of Canada’s leading innovation incubators bringing together academia and industry to support the commercial growth of businesses.

“Hamilton is home to a vibrant network of leading innovators in the Canadian life sciences sector, and McMaster Innovation Park is delighted to welcome Kapoose Creek Bio to our community. We are eager to see the company make strides in solving critical problems in natural product drug discovery, and MIP is the perfect place to make it happen,” she said.

These recent developments will accelerate Kapoose Creek Bio’s already remarkable growth, and support its efforts to produce a Drug Candidate for preclinical development in the coming months.
